GW Movement Trays (I)

Last February (and i mean 2011 February... yes, looong time ago) after my birthday i decided that I will finish proyects instead of only starting them. This has two consequences:

a) Someone hear me and laugh to death.
b) I forbid myself to buy new stuff for my "great idea i just have today in the bath".

Actually, i was pretty sure i will still start some proyects because... well... it´s how i am. But i´m proud to say that i only started one, and it´s only a long-time proyect that doesn´t need too much attention (and doesn´t need too much space): my golden demon proyect of wich i talked about on another post. Meanwhile, i decided that buying stuff to "complete" already started proyects or just to decorate stuff i already have would be allowed: and all of this leads me to this post: an evaluation of GW movement trays.

Ok, pretty unrelated beginning for this kind of post, but i just have to told :P.

   Well, here is the package:

The Package

At this point you can think that GW has reached another level of lazyness: now they say "built yourselve your movement trays". And that´s true, but with a big "but" (no, a butt not, a but):

Elements
The pack comes with two plastic panels with squares marked. One of the sides have 20 mm squares and the other 25 mm, wich covers all the range of sizes for Warhammer´s bases (because monsters and similars are nothing but a "combination" of several 20-25 mm bases).

Close up of the two kind of square´s sizes

Ok, so let´s built our own movement tray: First: mark the size you need (that is, the number of minis on your unit). In this example, two 20-men Chaos warriors (25 mm)
Do not throw away anything!

 Now, cut:

I use that saw in the picture for nearly all my hobby´s cutting

BEWARE!: You will have to cut a little more that only "by the line" if you want your base to "hold" your miniatures like the old bases: It´s hard to explain now, wait for the second post of the series and you will see pictures, i´m only giving you a warning now ;)

After that, remove from the sprue four "corners":
This is how they look like :P
I suggest to glue these first. Put all in "position" on the table and then glue one by one pressing the base, so they end in the better place possible. Ein? Well, if you do it one by one "in the air" maybe they end in a wrong angle/position/whatever so the final base will be probably unstable. Hard to tell with words (even with pictures) so believe me or not (but if you don´t, don´t tell i didn´t warned you!)

An example with a mini

And now we only have to add the borders!.

You will need to cut them also (sometimes)

And that´s all for now: on the second post of the series you will see the final results. Yes, it takes  a little more time that the old ones, but now you can have a movement tray for the EXACT size of your unit. If you play with Bretonnia this is a must-have.

See you soon!

Foolish Poetry: I

I started this one as a humble homage to my friend Anna Raven, as a way to thanks his kind (and probably undeserved) words that she write on my dedication of his book Cuentos Preliminares (autorship shared with Rakel Archer too!). It started that way, yes, but soon enouhg it developed his own life and went on a new direction, growing in an unexpected way and ending in an unintended place. For good or not, you have to tell ;):

Raven

Darkness tries to bring me down
Blackness search my soul to drown
In these moments of despair,
On this nights of empty sound

They try to cover me in black
Make my white wings full of dark
Like a raven, doomsday bard
Hunting for decaying man

Am I that, just an small crow?
One who feeds on glory past?
Unable to build a better world
Voice disturbing, a cursed one?

I feed on others, that much is true
Mine are their lost, but his victories too
I walk in the steps of giants and clowns
Both of them just, within me living through

So i´m a raven,  what´s the problem?
Beauty makes not better wings
I Can leave behind this foolish sorrows
I Can also enjoy an early Spring

And here I am, far from their sigh
They can surround me, but of them i´m not part
I´m able to leave, to search for the sun
I´m an small Raven, but still I can fly.

Problem with poetry (well, and writing, and lot more things) is that you feel that you never finish it, it´s always "uncomplete". Well, let´s say that this is the finished version at this moment. Hope you like it, see you soon ;)

Foolish Poetry: Introduction

        Poetry is dead.

Yea, i know, there is still people that write poetry  but... come on, who knows about them except the ones of "that world"? (poets, i mean). Yeah, that´s the point: you can know one name or two, but mostly they are a dying breed, or at least one that knew better times. Fifty, maybe, one hundred for sure years ago there was still people who write poems and such, but in recent decades the number (and fame) of them had declined inexorably, and you can think on several reasons for that. I got my own, so let me talk a little about them:

First: the poetry actually didn´t die, only changed. With the "rise" of music that we have with TV (Radio also helped, but tv was key) people who write some "poethic" texts started to write it FOR songs. That don´t mean every musician is a poet, you know...

No, you´re not an street poet.
... but i assure you that most boys (and girsl, don´t yell at me :P) who should have writed poetry just two decades ago instead writed songs. Maybe because everything sounds better with music. Maybe because it´s easier to get rich.... who knows?

Other change was the style.... instead of the ABBA (no, not the group, this) kind-of-poetry, it becomes usual another, more like prose, way of writing it. Not my favourite, but still great if you know how to use it.

Like HIM
And then there are the books. Yeah, i know, writers and poets has shared a long time together and nothing never happened, but with globalization, the better ways to share knowledge and such, it´s easier to reach a lot more people now. "Oh, but that also helps poetry!" you say, and its ok, except that, truth be told, literature is a more popular gender. For every what, ten, twenty, a hundred books?, a poetry one comes to libraries, giving the subtle idea that if you want to be read for as many persons as possible, "normal" books are the better idea. Also, now is easier to do cheap publications, so money isn´t really a problem (sometimes). In older times new releases most probably would take weeks, or months (and that, in the same country) so probably you will only have access to publications of your own city, so if you publish something there you will only have to deal with your "neigbors". Now, you only need a blog...

These are just a bunch of my ideas about this. We could go deeper and deeper on them, and probably i should have to change it or directly admit that they are not true, but this post is not about that. No, the fact that i write about poetry is simple: i started to write mine a few weeks ago.

Don´t laugh, bastards.

Truth be told, when i was young i used to write some poems, specially in school, but this was a hobby long time forgotten, and poems of that age are long lost (probably for good). Recently, i read "I have a rendezvous with death" (well, that´s a translation of this title) ...

and now i like this video even more...

... and that old "hobby" came back again. Probably not for long, i usually get bored easily, changing from one thing to another (and adding another proyect to my ever-growing pile of unfinished stuff...) but it´s now here, so let´s see what happens. Also, i writed this introduction to tell that i´m going for the "classic" ABBA style (old habits) but most probably that will be my only limitation: Don´t expect nothing spectacular (or good...), i only want whatever i write to "sound" good. I don´t need to read "hey, crows are´n red, this verse is wrong" beause if saying red crows makes the poem sound ok, it will be ok with me. Of course, if you read something misspelled just tell me and i will change it. I´m only saying that "logic" is not my main concern :).

I hope someday i will be able to post one or two poems. Actually, if i write ten it will be some kind of record... but it would be nice to read your opinions. And if you even like one of them, it will be great.

See you ;)

PD: I´m gonna write them in english (a big part). Reading this post may give you the idea that i know nothing about english, but hey, i want to try. Again, thanks for any help :P
