Space Hulk Librarian: Painting (II)

New update my friends, here is the Terminator with a few more layers of paint. Now the blue starts to look like there is a directional light, but until i paint the rest of the elements (specially his chest) i fear that the effect will not be clear enought. Anyways, tell me your opinions! :D

Front, blue almost done.

You can see that the left leg (in the picture) its brighter on the upside, i´m planning on leaving everything far enought from the axe in a semi-dark color. Maybe the right shoulder should be darker but... ah, it ended so nice...

Side view.

Here, look at the arm that holds the axe. You could think that, being that close to the light it should be completely blue uh? Well, a big no. The bottom of the arm will never be reached by the illumination, so... well, you know, "the brightest light cast the darkest shadow"...

Back. Not convinced about the... ass-plate XD

The start of a freehand on the shoulder pad

I really like how this is turning out, specially the blue. Hell, i think i have found my new blue for the Ultramarines... again...*sigh*. I also decided to do a freehand on the armour because i´m probably masochist, but hey, it was a really big flat surface, so it just... had to be done... I´m afraid that until i finish the base it will not look completely ok, but future will tell.

Anyways, stay tuned for more updates! See you soon!

Space Hulk Librarian: Painting (I)

Well, here we are at last on the painting stage... but beware, because this will not be a typical miniature!. When Mr. Killian Doyle selected this mini for me to paint, it did it with evilness on his hearth, because he wanted me to do a light source effect. I. The one who painted an Stegadon Pink, and still keeps her that way. That´s the kind of friends i have.

Still, it was what he selected, and it was an interesting challenge, so ... let´s go! First, documentantion (eh, don´t look at me that way, i alwa-sometimes look for examples and tutorials): i had seen a lot of Source Light effects on minis around the internet, so i thought it will be easy to find one that could help me, maybe even the same mini...

              Wrong.

After spending a lot of time (well... half an hour... or something...) I didn´t find anything usefull, so i went for my own selection of pictures on my computer. This is what i found:

One of the best that i have

Fire effect on the wings

Green light effect

And the most useful for what i wanted:

"The night is dark..."

Still, i had one problem. I really like the mini of the terminator, so going for a "complete black and only a little light" seemed like wasting a really good mini. The other option, painting the mini with dark colors and go brighter the closer to the source light was way more complicated and i wasn´t sure of how to do it.

Obviously, that was the option i choose.

I had other worries, like the fact that, being a Librarian mainly blue, a white light source could end poorly (not like the first picture above, where the "yellow" light source it´s great compared to the grey of the mini who's being fried. A blue light on a blue armour...). Anyway, i will worry about that when i´m there. That´s how i am :P.

Then, looking at the mini trying to figure out how the ligth source should look like, i decided to try a really simple but useful idea that i have seen somewhere on the internet. I picked the mini and, with only a slight push, primed them from the direction where the light should come from (the axe). It´s not at all perfect, because light doesn´t work like a spray (the intensity and other stuff) but to give you an idea its fine. Then, took some pictures to have for reference. Here they are:

Light should be better here

But not here
