What time is it? Sculpting Time!

Hi folks, i´m pleased to announce that in the next posts my blog will have an special "guest"... a guest related to this picture i posted over six months ago (it was not my main proyect, you can tell XD):

Again, not an Slimmer mini

Can you guess who´s our special guest? The title of the post can give you an hindsight on the matter... or the replies on the original post of this picture, too. Anyways, i will give you a moment to try.

                ...........

Yes? No? Ok, the celebrity that visits us today is nothing more and nothing less than.... Jake the Dog from "Adventure Time"!:

Weeeeeee!!!

The reason of his visit is that, in January, i decided to sculpt a green stuff version of our beloved multi-shaping dog. Yes, i know i have to sculpt certain chaos warrior that is still not even started... i know.... but that´s how i am, the moment i have to do something... i start another thing. And i thought that making this fellah will take me little time.

                        I was a little wrong.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaannyway, stay ready for my ¿first? sculpting tutorial on this blog. This is what you will need if you want to do another Jake. Or sculpt a lot of other things, actually :

         GW Liquid Green Stuff:
When they sell it the first time they told us that it was useful to cover the """little""" mistakes on the Finecast models. It was a lie. Not only you need actually more than a little GS, but also, when this liquid thing goes solid, it doesn´t cover nearly any hole. But it has other interesting qualities that i will show you.

Just opened

                   Silver paper:
Yep, silver paper. This is an idea i get from several forums, and i think it´s pretty good. You´ll see now how it is used ;)

The aforementioned silver paper

          The Sculpting!
Ok, get ready for the show: First thing, the basic shape. Since Jake is pretty much a "ball", this is going to be easy: start with a silver paper ball ...

Like this. Well, maybe better

... until you have a size that you think is just a bit smaller than necessary for the body.

Good enought. Cut the silver paper and use (if needed) superglue to achieve a ball as similar to Jake as possible (don´t worry yet if it´s not perfect ;)). The wire is for working with the miniature.

Finn in power armour

Now the better use i have found for the liquid green stuff: cover the silver ball with it, and don´t worry if it´s not smooth, liquid green stuff can be easily sanded with a nice result. You will have a good "base" to work with, and you´re gonna save a LOT of green stuff. Maybe not a lot with minis like Jake, but with bigger minis, you will reduce the time and efforts quite a lot ;)

And now we start the "tricky" part, sculpting XD. I always suggest the same: start with the "lower" layer and go up. Being "lower" the details that can be covered with other details. On this mini, it´s easy to know what are them, the mouth:

First approaching on nose and eyes:

Quite good!...

*Ahem* ok maybe a little more work...

Now that we have the face we only have to add green stuff until you get the shape of our friend Jake. You can see that the eyes are now a little covered with the green stuff we just added, but don´t worry, we can do them again later. The only important thing here is the mouth ;)

Just a little GS at a time

                          And more... and more...

Side view

Aaaand maybe it´s now a bit bigger, you may think. Another good thing of green stuff, you can saw them until you have the correct size :D. Also, eyes have been redone ;)

Still need a more round shape

How do we know how long it needs to be Jake?. Easy, giving him arms!. And ears, one cannot hear music all day if he doesn´t have ears!

Better, right? ;)

                 "And if I stick to the plaa-a-n, I think I'll turn into a lava maa-a-n. I think I'll turn into a lava maa-a-n!!!!.

Yeahhhhh

Coming soon second episode with the finish of the sculpting ;). Hope to see you soon!

+++++++++++++++++ INITIATING TRANSLATION++++++++++++++++
